Wall-hung images executed in fiber can be “read” as easily as any other image. Contemporary works of art, in particular, feature subjects and pictorial devices that have an impact similar to paintings. Weavings, tapestries, embroideries and quilts have a philosophical appeal because of their incorporation of threads, which may be likened to the progression and interplay of ideas. Textiles also function as historic and cultural documents, delineating the ethos of their community of origin.
