Kloss was born in Oakland, CA and educated at University of California, Berkeley. She moved to Taos with husband Phillips on her honeymoon in 1925 and in her words, considered herself a New Mexican from then on. She lovingly and with uncommon craftsmanship captured the landscape of the California coast, but is mainly known for her portrayals of the northern New Mexico land and its people. Her art was mainly in the form of etchings (approximately 627), some watercolors and fewer oils. She is considered one of the finest printmakers of our time and her name has become synonymous with the Taos Art Colony. |
