Painting with the Landscape: Making Paint with the Earth Beneath Our Feet
Explore the realm of Georgia O'Keeffe in a two day workshop that will take you to the landscape that inspired her paintings. Process the minerals into pigments that can be mixed with a variety of binders to make paint. The art of making paint from the surrounding environment will give you a better understanding of the colors that you see. These paints will allow your artist sensibility to re-create the landscape, which has literally been transferred from the earth to your art.

Nina Caruso Terra Cotta
An exhibit of work by Italian master ceramic sculptor Nino Caruso will feature terra cotta sculptures and monoprints made by the artist while living in Santa Fe in 2009. Nino Caruso was born in 1928 the son of a “pirrera”, stone cutter. 81 years later the terra cotta sculptures formed with New Mexico micaceous clay have both the formal touch of a master modernist and the spirit of desert rock forms. Terracotta translated from Italian means "baked earth".

Art Walk for the Railyard Arts District in Santa Fe's Railyard on Friday, July 30 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Calling itself the Railyard Arts District (RAD), a number of galleries in the Railyard are formally organizing joint programming, pooling marketing initiatives, and carrying the message to the community, both at home and at large. Along with SITE Santa Fe, an internationally-known, contemporary kunsthalle, the galleries include: Box Gallery, Charlotte Jackson Fine Art, Gebert Contemporary, James Kelly Contemporary, Jay Etkin Gallery, LewAllen Contemporary, TAI Gallery, William Seigal Gallery and Zane Bennett Contemporary Art. Together with the Santa Fe Railyard Community Corporation, the non-profit organization charged with managing the city-owned railyard property, the RAD group seeks to create a heightened sense of destination for the area, and to coordinate events, concerts and exhibitions that will generate increased traffic and recognition to the pedestrian-friendly locale. As our first joint-initiative, we are hosting Last Friday Art Walks in the Railyard. The last Friday of every month, the above galleries and SITE will be open from 5-7 pm. We encourage everyone to join us and celebrate the Railyard!

Arts and Culture of Ancient Southern Arizona’s Hohokam Indians
The Hohokam Native American culture flourished in southern Arizona from the sixth through fifteenth centuries. Hohokam artifacts, architecture, and other material culture provide archaeologists with clues for identifying where the Hohokam lived, for interpreting how they adapted to the Sonoran Desert for centuries, and explaining why the Hohokam culture mysteriously disappeared. In this presentation Mr. Dart illustrates the material culture of the Hohokam and presents possible interpretations about their relationships to the natural world, their time reckoning, religious practices, beliefs, and deities, and possible reasons for the eventual demise of their way of life. The program features slides of Hohokam artifacts, rock art, and other cultural features, a display of authentic prehistoric artifacts, and recommended readings for more information about the Hohokam.

Wu Man
Widely lauded as one of the premier pipa players, and certainly one of the most revolutionary. Wu Man has taken the pipa, a 4-string Chinese lute, and helped incorporate it into a variety of modern idioms, regularly collaborating with folks like the Kronos Quartet, Yo-Yo Ma, Philip Glass and many more. We noticed that Wu Man was going to be an artist in residence at this year's Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and were thrilled that we could lure her down for a special solo recital at the Outpost. While the idea of seeing a solo Chinese lute player may sound a bit daunting, Wu Man's virtuosity and the wide range of performance styles make for a captivating and engaging evening.
