David Kammerzell: Myths & Mythos
My intent is to portray some of the actual denizens of the West but in a likewise mythic way. Using the language of commercial art, I depict them hyper-realized with juiced up colors, stylized landscapes, and other touches of idealism layered over the plain record of their history. Working from vintage photographs, some of the characters I paint I will know a bit about their story while others are completely anonymous. But either way I pay homage to them and this ideal that is the American West. -David Kammerzell
