Tadashi Nishihata: Tanba Masterworks
Timeless masterpieces by 3-time Grand Prize winner, ceramic artist Tadashi Nishihata from Tanba, Japan. Among his many achievements, Nishihata spent over three decades to re-establish the ancient Akadobe-yu (red clay glaze), a beautiful chestnut red finish used on early Edo Tanba pottery, which was ‘lost’ for almost 400 years despite numerous attempts to re-create it. His other accomplishments include the unique Hai-yu finish, a turquoise-colored glaze made from the rice plant and wood ashes. Nishihata was awarded the Grand Prize in the prestigious Chanoyu Zokei Ten Exhibition sponsored by the Tanabe Museum of Art three times, a record that still holds today. The current show includes 21 stunning works by this exceptional artist.
