Artist's Statement

Noël Hudson has always been drawn to the beauty and form of the natural world.

“When I was a child, frequent visits to the exotic pond-filled gardens and variegated landscape of Golden Gate Park coupled with art museum exhibitions initiated my desire to become an artist. Art and nature became my refuge and my joy.”

After a move to Taos, NM from Los Angeles in 1980, Hudson’s paintings became informed by the rich, natural environment of northern New Mexico. Since then the landscape has continued to be the inspiration for her work, enriched by living near the Rio Grande river in Albuquerque, and, since 1992, in the mountains and high desert area of Santa Fe. Additionally, her work has been stimulated by intensive studies in art, art history and higher consciousness as well as world travel and living abroad.

“Abstraction and representation are the interchangeable warp and weft of my compositions, in which I incorporate bold design, expressive use of color, patterned surface and the spirit of movement all with guidance from my inner voice.”
