Castillo Gallery features the sculpture and paintings of Paula Castillo,
the contemporary and traditional wood sculpture of Terry Enseñat Mulert

Since 1990, they have provided visitors with a rich combination of abstract art and collectible folk art amid the enigmatic beauty of one of New Mexico's historic mountain villages.

Terry Enseñat Mulert

began studying the woodcarvers of Cordova in 1987. After settling in the village, he quickly developed his own unique style of carving Santos out of native aspen and juniper. These pieces are influenced by the works of Jose Delores and George Lopez of Cordova. Later, he moved in a direction reminiscent of the renowned Taos carver Patriciño Barela and through the years has produced a large body of work in both traditional and contemporary styles.

In 2001, Mulert's works will be featured in a three-person exhibit at Regis University's "Regis Collection" curated by Fr. Tom Steele, scholar and Jesuit priest.

Exploring countless variations on the human figure, his abstract, sensual figurines are sculpted from aged juniper gathered from the surrounding forests. Mulert's work has been included in national exhibitions.

Paula Castillo

completed a site-specific sculpture installation in the city of Belen, NM in 2001. Commissioned by the State of New Mexico, the project involves large cement columns and granite stones. She was also invited to participate in the show "Steel Grrrls" opening September 7th, 2001 in Houston, Texas. This event is curated by Kathleen Whitney and Victoria Lightman and is sponsored by The Houston Art League.

Paula's paintings often depict the warm complexity of village life and the mythological nature of animal life. With her old adobe studio overlooking the town center, she is greatly influenced by the sights and sounds of Cordova
