Creative stitchery universally encompasses insight, concept, fine artistic design, and one's unique personal perception. Rich color and texture are achieved with a variety of yarns embellished with beading and stitched with originality, mystical enchantment
and dedication. Unity, the fiber warmth, the rhythm, light and sparkle of the stitches and beading fresh to the contemporary moment while praising our past -- these are the elements of excellence in my needle expressions.
Each of my fine art works is a symbol of my love, inspiring, exploring and observing life's beautiful patterns. |

A complex expression of traditional and contemporary embroidery,
Helenn's stitchery requires both artistic and technical skills.
Depending upon its scale, each new work can take anywhere from three
months to more than a year to create. Often dyeing the base fabric
-- she layers different stitches to create rich textures and adds
beads. Helenn relies on such traditional and contemporary themes
as the universal family, and spirituality to convey her artistic
vision. From interpretations of her children's works to New Mexican
and Russian icons, the images that recur in Helenn's work have expanded
to include architecture, landscapes, figures, European & Greek, Indian, Byzantine
and Hispanic mythology, religious and universal art.

The American Embassy in Prague received a major piece of Helenn's fiber work titled "Karlovy Vary Night View" in October 2006. The piece took a year to create and is in a series that she has been developing for five years.
Helenn created a memorial altar cloth for Rebecca Sampson, daughter of Stephens College President Emeritus Patsy H. Sampson. The altar cloth was placed in the Campus Firestone Baars Non-denominational Stephens College Chapel in Columbia, MO. The memorial altar cloth was dedicated April 20, 2006 at the Annual Alum Reunion.
At the 2006 Fiber Celebration (National Juried Exhibit), at The Lincoln Center, Fort Collins, CO, Helenn’s “My Pots” won second price in three-dimensional presentation. Her Czech piece, “Czech Republic Window Scene,” was included on the invitation. Previously, Helenn's innovative fiber stitchery "Forest" was exhibited in the 31st Annual exhibit of national/international competition by Northern Colorado Weavers Guild's "Fiber Celebration 2005," at the Longmont Museum & Cultural Center, Longmont, CO.
