"Willis Lee's photogravures inspire a sense tranquility, and the complexity of his work lies in his flare for intentional and simple composition that beckons the viewer to look again and again. His use of contemporary photographs in an antique and rare medium is an innovative concept. The unique medium and macro proportions of the subject require the attention of the beholder, as if the subject were alien. Willis Lee's role as an artist is to "witness the intention of nature." His work is about the exploration of form, tone and content. The exaggerated softness of crisp, definitive photographic lines, the myriad of subtle tonalities and the varying ink hues are part of the alluring effect of Willis Lee's photogravures."

"Willis
Lee's prints join a rich tradition in the arts, which has for centuries
explored the vitality and sensuousness of floral objects. From elegant,
stylized carvings of lotus blossoms in ancient Egypt and Persia,
to twentieth century artists like Edward Steichen, Imogen Cunningham
and Georgia O'Keeffe, floral subjects form a continuum of aesthetic
expression. Like those before him, Willis Lee has allowed his chosen
medium to make its special imprint on that tradition."
